Agriculture Camera for AgTech Startup
Project Details:
Our team designed and developed a remote crop monitoring camera system for GroView, an AgTech startup focused on providing farmers with an accurate and cost-effective way to monitor and measure crop performance. The project encompassed the complete product development process, from initial concept generation through to pilot production, resulting in a robust device capable of operating in demanding agricultural environments.
The design process began with a thorough understanding of the challenges faced by growers when collecting reliable crop data across large areas. Working closely with the client, we developed a camera system that could be deployed remotely to capture consistent imagery and provide valuable insights into crop growth, health, and performance. The solution was designed to be both practical and economically viable, helping farmers make informed decisions without the need for frequent on-site inspections.
A key feature of the product is its integrated rotating protective cover, which shields the camera lens from dust, moisture, insects, and environmental exposure during the day. The cover automatically rotates open at night, allowing the camera to capture clear images of the crops before returning to its protected position. This mechanism was carefully engineered to maximise reliability while minimising maintenance requirements in the field.
The enclosure and structural components were developed using CNC-machined ABS and fabricated aluminium parts, providing a balance of durability, weather resistance, and manufacturability. Significant attention was given to the integration of electronic components, environmental sealing, mounting systems, and serviceability to ensure the device could withstand long-term outdoor deployment.
The result is a durable, production-ready agricultural monitoring camera that enables remote crop assessment and data collection. By combining innovative mechanical design with robust construction, the GroView camera provides farmers with a practical tool for improving crop management, increasing operational efficiency, and supporting data-driven agricultural decision-making.
