Project Details:

Our team was responsible for the industrial and mechanical design of the Sottovoce Aria Tag, a compact noise dosimeter developed specifically for the orchestral and performing arts industry. The product forms part of Sottovoce's innovative platform that provides musicians and orchestras with real-time noise exposure monitoring to help protect hearing health.

The design process focused on creating an unobtrusive device that could be comfortably worn by musicians during rehearsals and live performances without interfering with movement, instrument handling, or the visual presentation of the orchestra. Particular attention was given to the unique environmental and user requirements of professional performers, ensuring the device remained lightweight, durable, and discreet while delivering reliable functionality.

The product's visual design was inspired by the aesthetic of the orchestral environment—dark, elegant, and dramatic. Careful consideration was given to the form, colour palette, and surface finishes to ensure the device blended naturally into performance settings and complemented the refined appearance of musicians and orchestral attire.

Working closely with the electronics development team, we integrated the innovative hardware into an exceptionally compact form factor. The mechanical design balanced stringent space constraints, manufacturability, assembly requirements, and user comfort, resulting in a robust enclosure that effectively protects the electronics while remaining practical for everyday use in demanding performance environments.

The final product successfully combines innovative technology with thoughtful industrial design, delivering a purpose-built solution that supports hearing conservation and wellbeing across the orchestral industry while reflecting the visual character and atmosphere of the performance environment it serves.
