Of course, the right Non-Executive Director or Chairman will be the one who is right for your business and helps you to achieve your goals… that is to say, they’ll be the right person for you. Nonetheless, they must have certain skills which they can bring to bear; above all, they will:
- Get on well with the existing team
- Add real value and help drive the business forward
- Challenge people (ask unexpected questions)
- Help people to think in new ways (get unexpected answers).
- See things from a different perspective from the executive team
- Communicate at all levels inside and outside the company
